I just happened to come across this wedding after it had ended this past Sunday, during the Sunday Streets kickoff along The Embarcadero. With Cupid’s Span as the centerpiece in Rincon Park and the Bay Bridge and San Francisco Bay in the background, it has become a very popular spot for wedding photos … but… Keep reading

I kept hoping somebody else might call 311 or visit their website at www.sf311.org to request graffiti abatement on the traffic signal box on the NW corner of Spear and Harrison. I first spotted the graffiti on that box in November 2009 (see photo below). Nearly a year and a half later, I finally broke… Keep reading

| March 23, 2011 | Posted by jamie under Non-Profits |
We are very lucky to have the Embarcadero YMCA providing community programs, especially for young people in South of Market. I just discovered that they have a Facebook fan page and a Twitter account to help keep our community informed about what’s going on at The Y. While you’re adding the Embarcadero YMCA to your… Keep reading

You can read a summary and find a link to a… Keep reading

One of Supervisor Jane Kim’s top priorities is improving the pedestrian safety within District 6. Please plan on attending the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee meeting on April 7th at 10:30 a.m. (look up the exact room location at City Hall by viewing the April 7th agenda when it appears online around April 1st).… Keep reading

An intern from Phil Ting’s mayoral campaign asked if I would post this information, and I am happy to oblige since this is a free, public event that does not appear to require a financial donation by attendees (if it were a fundraiser, I would not post it). Please note that this is not indicative… Keep reading

Why are Mid-Market and the Tenderloin in such bad shape?
| March 19, 2011 | Posted by jamie under Activism |
This past week’s Board of Supervisors Budget Committee included the hot topic of the Twitter Payroll Tax Exclusion. One of the justifications for granting an incentive for Twitter to move to the former San Francisco Mart building between 9th and 10th on Market Street is that the area has been downtrodden for years with many… Keep reading

I’m always happy to let folks know about new small businesses in downtown San Francisco that may be of interest to SoMa waterfront residents. Today, I received a press release from Brett Thurber, owner of a new electric bicycle company called The New Wheel, announcing the opening of New Wheel’s showroom space in a shop… Keep reading

I just spoke with Linda Avery, the Planning Commission’s Secretary, and she has also heard that 45 Lansing Street’s agenda item will LIKELY (I interpret this as 99.999%, but it still isn’t for sure) be continued to another meeting … possibly April 14, 2011. Only the Planning Commission meeting that starts at 1:30 p.m. on… Keep reading
