City Politicking on Saturday, June 2nd

For those of you interested in the City’s Mayoral contest this year, there are two events you may want to attend.

The campaign to re-elect Mayor Gavin Newsom needs volunteers this Saturday to collect signatures to get his name on the ballot.

Newsom ’07 signature gathering details:
Date: Saturday, June 2nd

Time: 12:30 PM — Rally and pick up petitions
4:30 PM — Turn in your signatures to Mayor Newsom!

Place: Newsom ’07 Campaign Headquarters, 1320 Sutter St. at Van Ness (click here for a map

RSVP: aaron.goldsmith@actlocallysf.org or (415) 351-0359 (ask for Aaron if you have questions)

For those among us who yearn for an alternative to Mayor Newsom, our own Supervisor Chris Daly is hosting a “progressive convention” to nominate a “progressive” for Mayor.

Progressive convention details
Date: Saturday, June 2nd

Time: 10:00am – 5:00pm (take your stadium cushions!)

Place: Tenderloin Elementary School on Turk at Van Ness

RSVP: No RSVP formalities that I’ve read about, but then again, I’ve not seen much about this event outside of Supervisor’s Daly mention of it here and there.

Regardless of your leanings, now is as good a time as any to get involved and make sure our City government works for us (and not just themselves and their own conveniences). Our City has a lot of issues that need to be addressed – and prioritized appropriately within our fiscal means.
