This article pisses me off beyond words. These are unforgivable hateful acts by this church at a time when our nation needs to focus on unity, on helping one another to survive through this economic downturn (food banks, shelters, health care), and on trying to lift others up instead of attack and smack them down because they are a minor population.
The Mormon church’s national members, who have been ordered by the LDS church to come up with at least $1,000 per member household, is outfundraising the folks who are trying to defeat Proposition 8. The Chronicle reported today that as of September 30th, $27 million had been raised by the folks who want to change California’s Constitution to take away the right to marry from same sex adult couples, taking away those LGBT Californians dignity because of their Utah/Mormon religious beliefs in how California law should treat people differently based on the gender of whom they love. The No On Prop 8 campaign has raised $19 million, $8 million less.
Please, please donate $10,000, $50,000, even $25 … whatever you can to help preserve equality for all in California … don’t let the State of Utah and their religious powerhouse Mormon Church to successfully dictate the laws of California. If Prop 8 succeeds, civil rights in California will be set back by several years … don’t let down those who sacrificed their lives to get us this far. no apathy in 2008 … and no regrets on November 5th
