America’s Cup “People Plan” Unveiling Thursday

Just a quick heads up that tomorrow there will be an event with Mayor Lee, members of the Board of Supervisors and AC stakeholders to unveil the People Plan. See below. You are invited to come.

When: Thursday, March 31, 2011, at 11:30 am

Where: Justin Herman Plaza

What: The People Plan is set forth in the America’s Cup Host and Venue Agreement as the vehicle by which the City and the America’s Cup Event Authority agree upon the strategies for transporting spectators to and from the waterfront event venues. This initial draft comes very early in the planning process for the events, and thus becomes a means by which we are able to provide a conceptual overview of the strategic vision for transportation as we continue to add detail to our planning effort. The People Plan strategies are designed in part to enhance the efforts to make this a environmentally sustainable set of events by emphasizing transit and bicycle options over private automobiles, and by developing information tools that can be used to allow spectators to make effective and efficient decisions of how to get to their destinations.

Why: A key message of this event is that the People Plan will be posted on the City’s website and the public will be invited to comment on it as the transportation strategies are refined during further planning work. We realize that the tight timeline of this planning effort requires that we get as much visibility on these issues as we can, in order to surface the best solutions as early as possible.
