Free San Francisco Chamber Orchestra Concerts

This sounds like a fun thing to do … and the price is right (free!). If Bach isn’t your thing, maybe you’d like to go to the Castro Theatre this weekend for the Mama Mia! Sing-Along.

BACH TO BACH

SAN FRANCISCO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
BENJAMIN SIMON, CONDUCTOR

Anja Strauss, soprano
Peter Lemberg, oboe
Tod Brody, flute

J.S. Bach: Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor
Michael Gilbertson: Concertino for Oboe and Strings (2006, West Coast premiere)
Dominick Argento: Six Elizabethan Songs
J.S. Bach: Cantata #210
P.D.Q. Bach: Schleptet

Featuring divine local diva Anja Strauss and two of our wonderful woodwind players–Tod Brody, flute and Peter Lemberg, oboe–master J.S. Bach and his wayward “son” P.D.Q. are represented on our final concert series of the season. Michael Gilbertson is a rising young composer, whose Concertino for Oboe and Strings will be given it’s well-deserved West Coast premiere. Noted American composer Dominic Argento’s lyrical mini-masterpiece brings a 20th-century sensibility to six lovely 16th-century songs. And just who is this P.D.Q. Bach? Come and find out, if you dare!
