NOT SOLD!! MTC recinds vote to buy 390 Main Street and reconsider options

The MTC Board decided to cool it a bit and reconsider their options for a new home.

It only seems logical to me that the regional transportation agency would be located in the Bay Area’s heart of multi-modal transportation options located in Rincon Hill and nearby.

While Oaklanders panic at the idea of losing the MTC to San Francisco, they seemed totally overlook the facts that the 390 Main location is located within walking distance of BART, the ferry boats that dock at the Ferry Building, the Caltrain station at Townsend and 4th Street, and they’d get a good taste of the traffic congestion caused by the Bay Bridge’s peak evening hour commutes (possibly encouraging them to try out contra flow bus lanes and other ideas to reduce traffic congestion). For MTC’s public meetings, I can hardly think of a more accessible by transit area than the Rincon Hill neighborhood.

At any rate, the MTC Board will reconsider and take another vote in a month or so ….

  1. These decision is not about logical. It is about politics. That is to avoid offending vocal opposition as much as possible.

To be fair, the site is not really walkable to Caltrain. And it is a longish walk from BART.
