2008 Neighborhood Empowerment Network Awards – Please Nominate RinconHillSF.org for Best Neighborhood Newsletter

I’m typically a very modest, relatively humble guy, but I’m going to make a gratuitous request for you to nominate this blog for the Best Neighborhood Newsletter as part of San Francisco’s Neighborhood Empowerment Network 2008 Awards.
The online survey where you can nominate this blog as the best neighborhood newsletter (until October 8th!) is located here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=kF_2frtygRDETBRayO7ea3Ig_3d_3d
Here’s what I filled into the questionnaire:
Best Neighborhood Newsletter: www.RinconHillSF.org – Jamie Whitaker
Best Community Celebration Award: 2008 South Beach, Mission Bay, and Rincon Hill Block Party – Marilyn Smith and Committee
Best Merchant Association/Community Benefit District Award:South Beach Mission Bay Merchants Association – Katherine Webster www.SouthBeachMissionBay.com
Comeback Neighborhood of the Year Award: ??? I think I answered NOPA for their new farmer’s market, but I don’t know they were ever really “down” or Duboce Triangle for their progress on Duboce Park and nearby streetscape improvements
NEN Lifetime Achievment Award – Not sure on this one …
NEN Hall of Fame – Harvey Milk, no question about it in my mind.
Please pass along this information to your neighbors before the nomination deadline of October 8th! This stuff isn’t very well publicized from what I can tell, but the folks who take time out from their daily lives to give back to the community and who work together to do good deserve recognition in my opinion.
If you’d like to attend the award ceremony itself, the event information follows:
The 2008 NEN Awards Featuring The 2009 Community Challenge Grants
On Thursday, November 13th, 2008 from 6pm to 9pm at San Francisco City Hall
This will be a joyous event celebrating the amazing work that has been happening in our neighborhoods. The program will feature an announcement of the recipients for the 2009 Community Challenge Grants as well as the issuance of the first ever NEN Awards.
The NEN Awards are our way of saluting the great work that happens every day in our communities. The categories include Best Neighborhood Newsletter, Best Community Building Project as well as the creation of the “NEN Hall of Fame” to name a few.
