Blood Shortage – Please Donate If You Can
|January 7, 2008||Posted by jamie under Community Services||
In case you haven’t heard, there is a shortage of Type O negative blood at the Blood Centers of the Pacific. The result of a high number of recent trauma cases, low donation rates, and weather conditions hampering usual out-of-state blood imports, hospitals are being urged to delay surgeries due to the shortage.
Unfortunately, gay men like myself are prohibited by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration from donating blood – that’s a shame considering many of us would like to help out. If you are able to donate, especially if you have Type O negative blood, please find the closest Blood Centers of the Pacific donation location on the Center’s web site www.bloodcenters.org, and set up a time to give blood. You can phone them at 1-888-393-GIVE.
I believe the closest location to Rincon Hill is the Downtown Center at 250 Bush Street.
Please take the time to help out if you can. Thank you.
