32 Professional Athletes and about 4,000 spectators are expected to descend upon Harrison Street on Saturday October 20th between 1:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. and on Sunday October 21st between 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. for professional downhill BMX and Skate Board events that are being produced for NBC Sports television.
BayCrest Towers garage will have free access in and out on Harrison Street, but otherwise the street will be closed between Fremont and Spear Streets for this spectator sports event. More importantly, folks who usually park their cars along Harrison Street between Fremont and Spear Streets need to find another spot for them from Friday night until Monday morning that particular weekend.
I have inquired about music and other amplified sound during the event, but I have not gotten a response yet.
9/19/12 Update: Amplified sound will be “low level amplified sound to communicate with athletes” on Saturday from 1:30 pm until 6:00 pm and on Sunday between 9:00 am and 10:45 am along with 1:30 pm until 3:15pm. Pre-recorded music will likely be played with announcements during Sunday, 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (also broadcast live on NBC Sports TV) and from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm.
Here is a diagram of the structures that will be set up for the event between Friday evening, 10/19 and broken down by Monday morning, 10/22.
This might be a fun opportunity to feel out closing this segment of Harrison Street on a somewhat regular basis to use for community purposes.
