Dew Tour Skateboard and BMX Event Closes Portion of Harrison Street October 19-22

As a BayCrest Towers (201 Harrison Street, San Francisco, CA) HOA Board member, I requested the NBC Sports Dew Tour event representatives to come to our HOA Board meeting to tell us what they plan to do on the weekend of October 19th through the 22nd.
Here’s what I’ve learned:
There will be 12 BMX and 20 Skateboard athletes who will compete on Sunday, October 21, 2012 from about 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Harrison Street between Fremont Street and Spear Street. During this time, no traffic except BayCrest Towers residents coming and going from the building’s Harrison Street garage entrance will be allowed on that segment of Harrison. The closure also affects folks who would normally travel Main Street across Harrison Street as the intersection will be closed. Residents of Portside I and II and BayCrest Towers who access their parking garage spaces via Main Street will be allowed to come and go on Main Street between Bryant and Harrison. Also, The Infinity residents should be able to come and go freely from the garage on Main Street between Folsom and Harrison.
STREET PARKING WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE along Harrison Street between Fremont and Spear Streets and along most of Main Street. If you normally use Residential Permit Y Parking for a second vehicle or whatever, you’ll need to find another area to park your car between Friday, October 19th starting at 8:00 p.m. and Monday, October 22nd at 5:00 a.m.
Here’s the cool part! Most of the action for the Dew Tour will be in Civic Center Plaza, but our gorgeous view corridor along Harrison Street towards the Bay with the prominent Bay Bridge is one of the main reasons this event is being staged on Harrison Street in front of our homes – and it also helps that Rincon Hill slopes down for the downhill BMX and Skate Streetstyle competition events. The BMX event will be broadcast live on NBC Sports from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21st.
Spectators are supposed to stay on the NorthWest side of Harrison Street. The Fire Department needs the SouthEast side of Harrison Street clear for emergency vehicle access at all times.
There will be amplified sound on Saturday during practice sessions (1:30 pm. until 6:00 p.m.) and on Sunday during practices and competitions (9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.). I have phone numbers for 3 event staff who should be on site and have control of the volume knob if things get out of hand, and if you email me at RinconHill@gmail.com, I’m happy to share the phone numbers with you.
They are guessing 2,000 – 4,000 spectators will come over here. There’ll be no food or drink vendors, so Sam and his family at Gabby Cafe (201 Harrison Street at Main Street) should have a boom in sales that weekend!
The Dew Tour will provide both 10-B (overtime SFPD) security and other security guards – approximately 15 or so is what the guys were guessing.
There will be no sponsor displays/advertisements at the Harrison Street Dew Tour events.
There will be 12 portable toilets and another 2 wheelchair accessible portable toilets. There should be 2 “zero waste stations” for compost/recycle/trash.
Hopefully, it goes off without a hitch and maybe returns for an annual Rincon Hill neighborhood shindig!
