Farmers Market, Open Daily, Coming to Metreon

While I barely digested the announcement of a UCSF Mission Bay farmers market starting this coming Wednesday, there is word of another farmers market joining the fray.

The Island Earth Farmers Market is tentatively scheduled to open up on Friday, May 8th at 9am inside the Metreon at 4th and Mission Streets, next door to Rincon Hill in the Yerba Buena neighborhood.

According to the web site, the market will be open from 9am until 8pm Monday through Saturday and from 9am until 7pm on Sundays. The site also says …

We are dedicated to delivering to you the finest fruits, vegetables, fish, poultry and meat free of pesticides, toxins and only a few hours off the farm. We also link the economics and politics of food with an economy of local support. “What is spent locally stays local” – and we tie that concept in with actively supporting social and community programs that promote a higher living standard for all.

Could this become the equivalent of Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market? Only time will tell … I am looking forward to checking it out.
