Fun Weekend Events

This weekend is so jam-packed with fun events that we will start the fiesta on Thursday at 6pm at Jessie Street near 4th Street (by the old church and Contemporary Jewish Museum) for the premiere of a monthly event called Let’s Go Dance @ Jessie!

Friday, May 8th
On Friday, there are a few artist shows happening … 5pm – 9pm at 111 Minna is a Happy Hour and 111 Minna Spring Art Show. Also on Friday (through Sunday), the SoMa Artists Studios at 689 Bryant Street (near 5th Street) are open – learn more at their web site.

Saturday, May 9th
Saturday brings the Artists Guild of San Francisco to Yerba Buena Gardens’s East Garden on Saturday from 9am – 5pm. Also at Yerba Buena Gardens, don’t miss the “Glories of Arab Music” performance on the stage from 1:00pm until 2:30pm.

Also on Saturday from 2pm until 4pm is a conversation with renowned choreographer Bill T. Jones (RSVP by Friday, May 8th) at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’s Forum.

At 4pm, Piers 30-32 become an concert amphitheatre for KFOG’s Kaboom concert and fireworks extravaganza. Tickets are $15 plus a nominal fee prior to the day of the show and $20 at the door.

Sunday, May 10th
On Sunday, get the bicycle out and come out and play for Sunday Streets from 10am until 2pm between AT&T Park and the Bayview Opera House at 3rd Street and Oakdale. This is the second of six scheduled Sunday Streets events this year. Please support Sunday Streets through donations, volunteering, and going out to enjoy the fun on the day of the event.

Closer to home, SFMOMA unveils its brand new rooftop garden on Sunday and admission is free.

Also, Direct from Taiwan, O-Kai Singers + Hsieh Yuwei Ensemble will perform at Yerba Buena Gardens from 1pm until 3pm.

Finally, the Rincon Hill neighborhood welcomes the How Weird Street Faire to the 10 blocks centered around 2nd and Howard Streets on Sunday from Noon until 7pm. Please be sure to donate a few dollars to help offset the dramatically increasing event costs charged by the City to this fun, lively event.

Next weekend (May 17th) … a new Farmers Market opens up inside the Metreon and the starting line for Bay to Breakers is smack dab in the middle of the Rincon Hill neighborhood!
