Ice Skating in San Francisco this Holiday Season

We’ve definitely crossed into the holiday period … the big pine trees are beginning to appear at their usual spots in Union Square and Fisherman’s Wharf and the seasonal ice skating rinks are set up and about to begin blasting our favorite 1990s pop and hair rock music. If you’re anxious to get the holidays a movin’, here are some dates and links to get you started.

Ice Skating in Downtown San Francisco

Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center – Open from November 11, 2009 through January 3, 2010

Safeway Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square – Open from November 11, 2009 through January 18, 2010

Yerba Buena Ice Skating – Open all year-round! (…. and don’t forget their bowling allies too!)

Holiday Tree (and Building) Lightings

Embarcadero Center’s Building Lighting – On November 20th, from 4pm – 6pm, a Winter Festival starts the evening at Embarcadero Center.  At 6pm, the lighting ceremony gets into gear with 17,000 lights on the Embarcadero Center buildings lighting up the season – Get a sneak preview of Disney on Ice Presents Worlds of Fantasy, a show coming to the Bay Area February 24th through March 7th at the November 20th event.

Pier 39 and Fisherman’s Wharf Tree Lighting
– On November 22nd with festivities from 1pm until 6pm (tree lighting set for 5:30pm).

Ghirardelli Square Tree Lighting Ceremony – Head over to Beach and Larkin Streets on November 27th from 1pm until 7pm (5:30pm tree lighting) for a visit from Santa Claus and some snow.

Union Square Tree Lighting – Sponsor a light and benefit UCSF Children’s Hospital – The tree lighting ceremony happens on November 27th at 6pm with festivities and LARGE crowds of people expected starting much earlier in the day.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at 555 California – Tuesday, December 1st from 4:30pm to 5:30pm is the last big tree lighting (that I’m aware of) in San Francisco – enjoy!

Have a happy and safe holiday season!
