The South Beach, Mission Bay, and Rincon Hill neighborhood block party is just around the corner on September 14th from Noon until 4:00 p.m. I noticed this evening that you can now pre-pay for your Delancey Street Restaurant prepared barbecue lunch ($10 versus $15 on the day of the event) and a ride on President Franklin Roosevelt’s USS Potomac (aka the “floating White House”) after the block party (also $10) if you order online.
This is a fabulous opportunity to come together as a community. While each neighborhood has its own unique concerns and focal points (AT&T Park in South Beach, Transbay Transit Center in Rincon Hill, and UCSF Mission Bay-related development in Mission Bay), we are all bound together by the waterfront and the challenge of building a residential community where none has existed for very long at all. I’m going to be in Michigan celebrating my mother’s 62nd birthday, but I will be envious of you all on that day, able to enjoy the second installment of Sunday Streets and then the South Beach, Mission Bay, and Rincon Hill 2008 Block Party.
