Are you ready for the weekend? I sure am.
You can check out the practice runs down around the Marina and Pier 39 for the weekend’s Fleet Week festivities, including the Canadian Forces Snow Birds and U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, between 1pm and 4pm today.
The Asian Culinary Forum weekend event starts at 5:30 pm with a walk-around tasting event at the Ferry Building.
Komen Card – The Susan G. Komen for the Cure, SF Bay Area Affiliate is having a party to kick off the 2008 Komen Card at the Hyatt Regency – Embarcadero Center on Oct. 10. Hyatt has generously agreed to donate 25% of food and beverage purchases to Susan G. Komen and they’d like to invite Rincon Hill residents to attend. The party will take place on Friday, Oct. 10 from 5:30 to 7:30pm in the hotel’s Eclipse Lounge.
Varnish Fine Art (on Natoma off of 2nd Street in Rincon Hill) has an artist reception starting at 6pm for the Fallen series of works by Carlos Huante and Jose Ismael Fernandez.
Pier 3 will light up with fireworks courtesy of Hornblower Cruises between 9:30pm and 9:45pm (and again on Saturday at the same time, same place)
11:30 am – 3:30 pm – Kids ‘N Trees – family event at Mission Creek Park at 4th and Channel Streets. See my earlier post to print out a form for a free pass for 2 adults and 3 children to this event.
Canceled due to water conditions:
11:30 am – 12:30 pm – Parade of Fleet Week ships on the Bay – find a perch between Crissy Field and Pier 39. You can tour the ships at various piers (including one or two anchored at Piers 30-32 in South Beach starting Sunday).
12:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Air show (Blue Angels start at 3 pm). You can listen in to KGO 560 AM radio if you don’t want to head out to join the thousands of folks expected out along the waterfront.
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm – Come join your other SoMa neighbors for the 9th annual SoMaFEST 2008 in the heart of the South of Market neighborhood! Saturday, October 11th, at the Victoria Manalo Draves Park on Folsom Street (between 6th & 7th Street)
11 am – about 4 pm, Fleet Week activities continue with a second official showing of the airshow, ship tours, music, and so on.
12:30 pm – 3:00 pm – Head up to North Beach for the Italian Heritage Parade and festivities in Washington Square Park. You’ll probably get your share of jet airplane flyovers while in North Beach as a bonus.
Have a pleasant weekend – and for those of us lucky enough to have Monday off of work for Columbus Day, take a day to relax!
