19th Avenue Pedestrian Safety Meeting Tomorrow

Pedestrian safety is one of my pet issues. It should be a pet issue for practically everyone who lives and works downtown near the Bay Bridge approaches. On the west side of the City (Sunset), there are dangerous pedestrian crossings on 19th Avenue – the danger of the crossings has been mentioned quite a bit in the news lately (and on this blog).

There are two upcoming meetings that you should try to attend to show your desire for more attention to pedestrian safety.

On Tuesday, July 31st from 6:00 – 8:00PM, the first meeting regarding the 19th Avenue Transportation Plan and pedestrian safety will happen at the Sunset Recreation Center, 2210 Lawton at 28th Avenue.

The second meeting (alternate) happens on Thursday, August 2, 2007 from 6:00 – 8:00PM at the Richmond Police Station, 461 6th Avenue, between Geary & Anza.

Also note that tonight, Channel 2 News at 10:00 pm is doing a special feature on pedestrian safety along 19th Ave.

Walking helps to keep our communities safer, to provide us with better health, and to build our community by providing more opportunities for interaction with your neighbors. Walking to work, if you’re blessed with that privilege, is a lot more pleasant than any other option in my humble opinion. Let’s do what we can to make pedestrian safety a higher priority in San Francisco.
