SFFD NERT TRAINING
Following the Loma Prieta earthquake, the San Francisco Fire Department realized they would require a significant amount of civilian assistance in the vent of another major earthquake or disaster. In response they developed the Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT). NERT is a FREE six class, eighteen hour education and certification course which provides VITAL information on how to prepare for, respond to and help your family and neighbors in the event of a disaster.

SFFD will host a NERT class on six consecutive WEDNESDAY evenings from 6:30pm to 9:30pm beginning JANUARY 13th, 2010 at the SFFD Headquarters, 2nd & Townsend Street.

ALL residents and business owners in the neighborhood are strongly encouraged to attend this incredible, FREE, and exciting training which is conducted by SFFD fire personnel. If you are unable to make all six classes, you can do make-up classes at other courses held throughout the city, throughout the year.

Simply send an e-mail with your name to sffdnert@sfgov.org to register.

The following safety and security recommendations are based on advice and suggestions from a number of safety and security information sources including SFPD, Patrol Special Police, USA On Watch, SF-Safety Awareness for Everyone, Community Patrol, Triangle Martial Arts Association and more……

EFFECTIVE LIGHTING
One of the most effective and cheapest crime fighting tools is suitable lighting to remove the cover of darkness from opportunistic crime activity.

Consider adding motion sensor activated additional lighting in dark backyards or alleyways surrounding your property. The additional lighting will help to deter opportunistic crime and will help neighbors and law enforcement to recognize suspicious activity much more easily.

ADD ICE TO YOUR CELL PHONE
ICE is an acronym for In Case of Emergency.

Emergency responders will look for an ICE-1, ICE-2 etc. entry in your cell phone and will call that number if you are found unconscious, incoherent, or otherwise incapacitated. Add the name and telephone number of a close friend who would be able to come to your aid or provide information to emergency services personnel should the worst ever happen.

If you hear or know of anything crime or safety related happening within our neighborhood which you believe others should be aware of, please let us know by sending an e-mail to KenCraigCA@gmail.com . We will be sure to pass on any information received to the most appropriate referral organization.
