Are you ready for a disaster?

September is apparently disaster preparedness month. Next month, we’ll hear a lot about the 20th anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake which truly marked the beginning of the rebirth of the Rincon Hill neighborhood, in my humble opinion.
Here’s a video from our friends at the American Red Cross to help you think about preparations you should have ready now for the next disaster.
By the way, the American Red Cross’s Bay Area Chapter is located at 85 Second Street near Mission Street in the Rincon Hill neighborhood. You can buy some of your earthquake kit supplies there and find out about volunteer opportunities. As an aside, there are a ton of non-profits’ offices in the 94105 Rincon Hill neighborhood zip code – one of these days, it’d be neat to have a list just to see all of the good work happening within our neighborhood blocks (any volunteers?).
