San Franciscans who spent the winter looking at their barren sidewalk wishing it was green and leafy can now use the first-ever seven-step guide to getting a street tree to makeover their block. Created by non-profits Neighbors Project and Friends of the Urban Forest, this free electronic guide will help any San Franciscan get in on one of the best secrets in San Francisco: sidewalk trees are easy to get, fun to plant, and turn your block from blah to beautiful.

Says Marina Psaros, Neighbors Project Bay Area Advisory Board member, “Getting a street tree on your block is an easy way to make your street both more friendly and more beautiful. We created this seven-step guide to take the mystery out of the process and help neighbors get more tress in the ground.”

Says Suzanne Whelan, Outreach Director for Friends of the Urban Forest, “I know there are many people in every neighborhood who would also like more street trees. By acting together and creating a neighborhood planting you will be rewarded with 30 or more street trees around your house, not just one!”
