SPUR Lunchtime Forums on Job Sprawl and High Speed Rail

I highly recommend that you check out the educational programs offered by San Francisco’s non-profit public policy think tank SPUR. While I don’t necessarily always agree with their positions, they always do a wonderful job of rationalizing and explaining their ideas for making San Francisco and the Bay Area in general a better place to live for us all.

SPUR’s Egon Terplan, who came to our RHNA meeting last October to talk about the City ballot propositions, sent out a notice today about some upcoming lunchtime forums hosted by SPUR at their new office at 654 Mission Street (between New Montgomery and 3rd Street) that I think will be interesting for Rincon Hill residents. Is the Train Coming? An Update on High-Speed Rail

Last November California voters approved a $10 billion bond for high-speed rail. Since then, planning has continued for the rail alignment that connects Los Angeles with San Francisco, passing through major cities in between. Issues to be discussed include: the impact of federal funds, land use considerations for stations, tradeoffs between upgrading regional rail versus a high-speed connection to Southern California and the growing opposition along the route. With Dan Leavitt, Deputy Director of the California High Speed Rail Authority.
