Dog Park Soft Opening Hours & Website

The Rincon Hill Dog Park now has its own website at www.RinconHillDogPark.org. It is a bit of a work in progress, but I managed to post a good amount of information already.
Probably the most important information is that volunteers from the neighborhood are unlocking and the locking the main gate to the park so that the two off-leash dog areas are available from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The point I cannot stress enough is that we all need to be good stewards of this park and take care of maintaining it. This means properly disposing of dog waste and litter that we see – even if your dog did not create the waste. If you see it, please clean it up (unless of course you see the dog in progress, and then you should alert the owner if he/she is lost in their iPhone/Android/Blackberry at that moment).
In addition to keeping the park clean, we’re also responsible for the costs for maintaining and operating the park. Please make a donation today. Your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law thanks to the 501(c)(3) non-profit fiscal sponsorship of San Francisco Dog Owners Group (SFDOG). So far in the month of December, $10,430 has been donated to the Friends of the Rincon Hill Dog Park via SFDOG. The first $5,000 raised covered the 10-year lease of the dog park from CalTrans (who generously built the park) by the City and County of San Francisco’s Department of Public Works (who have been great partners in the project).
I’d also like to note that this is a park for people – and the first such park for the Rincon Hill neighborhood to go and meet neighbors. Of course you have to be comfortable around dogs if you’re going into the off-leash dog areas (the public plaza is still under construction until early 2012), it is a public space and you can enjoy the benches with or without a dog by your side.
