Learn to Kayak in Mission Creek with UCSF Instructors

If the How Weird Faire isn’t really mom’s cup of tea for a Mother’s Day outing, how about free kayak lessons in Mission Creek Park from UCSF?

Here is your chance to try the sport of kayaking in your own backyard! On Sunday, May 10th in conjunction with the 2009 National Safe Boating Week and California Department of Boating and Waterways, the University of California San Francisco is offering free kayaking demonstrations in the protected waters of Mission Creek. UCSF Outdoor Programs staff will provide a brief introduction to sea kayaking including paddling techniques, boating safety and information about paddling in the Bay area. In addition, you’ll be provided educational materials and the opportunity to win kayaking trips and classes with UCSF Outdoor Programs.

Children eight years and older are welcome when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The event will be held from 10am-2pm at the Mission Creek Sports Park, 401 Berry Street. Kayaking demonstrations are on a first come-first serve basis. Parking is extremely limited. Take advantage of SF’s Sunday Streets and reach the UCSF boathouse by walking, cycling or taking public transportation to this free event.
