SFDOG Selected as Fiscal Sponsor for the Rincon Hill Dog Park

While Caltrans paid for the construction of the Rincon Hill Dog Park utilizing funds budgeted for improvements along the western approach of the Bay Bridge, the costs of the City and County of San Francisco leasing the dog park property and the operations (lighting, water/irrigation, etc.) must be privately-funded by the community.
The missing piece of the puzzle came into place yesterday when the 501(c)(3) non-profit San Francisco Dog Owners Group (SFDOG) agreed to act as the fiscal sponsor for the Rincon Hill Dog Park. This means donations for the Rincon Hill Dog Park are tax deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
From the SFDOG website:
SFDOG is a non-profit organization that promotes responsible dog ownership/guardianship, offers educational programs for both dog owners/guardians and the general public, and works for increased off-leash recreation opportunities for responsible dog owners/guardians and their canine companions.
While donation checks should be payable to SFDOG, the accounting work for the donations is being performed by the Rincon Hill Dog Park community group. This is why you may notice the mailing address for the form is a p.o. box over at Rincon Center on Steuart and Howard Streets. After they’ve been recorded by the Rincon Hill Dog Park community group Treasurer, checks will be delivered in batches to SFDOG for deposit into the SFDOG bank account for the benefit of the Rincon Hill Dog Park.
As a community, we have until approximately the end of December 2011 to collect $5,000 to provide to the City’s Department of Public Works (DPW) to pay for the initial 10-year lease of the Rincon Hill Dog Park from Caltrans. Additional funds will be needed to pay for the monthly utility bills (lighting, water, etc.) and for other expenses related to operating and maintaining the park.
I’ve read that 33% of all donations for the ENTIRE YEAR happen in the month of December. I hope that you can help open up and maintain our first dog park with a generous donation today! Please download and complete this form to mail along with your donation paid by check.
A soft opening should happen in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for information about a Grand Opening on a Saturday in February (exact date and details to be determined by the community group).
