Cocoon, 330 First Street, 2nd Floor
Dear neighbors – please be sure to welcome Cocoon to Rincon Hill when you have the opportunity to do so. They just opened up for business last week, and they welcome both women and men to enjoy their services. From reading the reviews on Yelp! so far, it sounds like Cocoon is a fabulous spot for you to let go of your worries and get some of the best spa services available in the City.
Cocoon is located at 330 First Street, 2nd Floor, (between Folsom and Harrison), 415.777.0100. Spa Hours: Tuesday – Thursday 10am – 8pm; Friday 7am – 7pm; Saturday 10am – 7pm; and Sunday 10am – 6pm. Closed Mondays. Yoga Studio: Open from 7am everyday. Available for private parties and events.
Here’s more information from Cocoon’s opening announcement:
European-born and trained skincare specialist Sarah Redmond is bringing her International expertise stateside with Cocoon Urban Day Spa – a new sanctuary set to open in the thriving area of Rincon Hill. Sarah, owner and mastermind behind Cocoon, has assembled a first-class team of talented estheticians, massage therapists, manicurists, and yoga professionals that will provide a complete menu of unique services and treatments.
Cocoon’s Yoga practice, designed by nationally certified yoga specialist Danielle Marie Giovanello, blends together a variety of practices such as Soul Sweat Asana Yoga, Vinyassa Flow and Power Flow classes. Giovanello’s mentors include an elite list of nationally-recognized Yoga Instructors including Wendy Gross, creator of Soul Sweat Asana Yoga and owner of the Yoga and Healing Center in Westfield, New Jersey, Annie Carpenter of Yoga Works, Los Angeles, well-renowned Yoga and Pilates Instructor Juliet Levy Pomann, and Peter Petrovic owner of BiKram of Montclair, New Jersey. Some of these instructors, as well as others, will periodically visit Cocoon to lead Intensive Yoga Seminars and training weekends.
Giovanello will work with downstairs neighbor Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant and renowned sommelier Mark Bright (formerly of Michael Mina) to create specialized Yoga and Wine Workshops. Bright’s carefully selected wines contain botanicals known for their medicinal benefits, and when combined with Giovanello’s restorative practice of yoga, will promote a higher level of relaxation and accentuate the layered flavors in the wine.
Holistic Massage, Herbal Poultice Massage, and Traditional Indian Head Massage are a few of the ancient therapies that will be performed by the Cocoon massage team. Cocoon’s owner, Sarah Redmond, will head up the advanced skin therapy program with intensive facials that provide a deep level of relaxation and a radiant glow. Redmond will use only the finest professional skin care lines including the luxurious and exclusive Sothys of Paris.
Additional treatments such as waxing, brow shaping, and tinting will be provided by Sarah LaShelle, who joins Cocoon from Benefit Cosmetics.
The layout and design of Cocoon was the joint effort of Redmond and John Strickland (Oola, Sushi Groove, Local Kitchen & Wine Merchant) who placed a large emphasis on separating the quiet, peaceful treatment area from the quicker-paced service area.
The treatment area is lit primarily from the soft glow of candlelight, with smells of fragrant flowers and herbs wafting through the air, and ethereal harmonies filling the soul. The serene setting promotes complete relaxation and tranquility – even before the massage and facial treatments begin.
The faster-paced service area is bright and airy with lots of natural light. Comfy pedicure recliners and seated manicure stations will host a list of services ranging from express mani/pedi’s to ultimate combinations. A complimentary wine list, courtesy of Mark Bright and Local Kitchen & Wine Merchant, will be provided to guests as well as a selection of teas, coffee, and herb-infused water.
A retail shop will reside next to the service area and feature an array of athletic apparel by high-end retailers such as Splendid Clothing, Mary Green, Cobian sandals, Wildchild Wear, Sally Spicer, Hugger Mugger, and hats by San Diego Hat Company.
Cocoon will be the sole U.S. distributor for Yogi Toes retail line, the high-end all organic European yoga line whose products are made with recycled and/or sustainable materials such as soy, vegetable inks and organic dyes and are sold without packaging to minimize waste. Environmentally friendly, non-slip yoga mats from Jade Yoga Mats will also be for sale as well as specially chosen products from the Sothy’s professional skincare line.
Please support our Rincon Hill businesses to encourage even more entrepreneurs to open stores and services in our quickly rising neighborhood.
