50 Years Ago Today, the Last Crossing of an Electric Train Across the Bay Bridge

The south side of the lower deck of the Bay Bridge was used for trains for 19 years, beginning on January 15, 1939. Today marks 50 years since the last train left the Transbay Terminal to cross the Bay Bridge for Oakland on April 20, 1958. The San Francisco Chronicle brought this golden anniversary to my attention in this past Friday edition article.

Let’s hope the voters of California pass the $10 billion bond issue proposal on November’s ballot so that we can enjoy a high speed train ride to Los Angeles in the advertised 2.5 hours some day in the future (~2020).
