Possible concerns within the realm of the EIR include: shadowing from 1,000+ foot Transit Tower, wind tunnel effects from additional towers, traffic congestion, air pollution (see traffic congestion), and the “on-the-ground” experience for pedestrians and so on.
I attended the November 3rd EIR hearing, and it was heard with barely a sneeze from the public. I spoke about my concerns for additional traffic congestion without any sort of efforts to mitigate the congestion and the air pollution that comes along with traffic congestion. I recommended that congestion pricing is very much needed for the weekday, evening outbound-only traffic to help mitigate the negative effects of everyone trying to leave downtown at the same time. Another good government and land use advocate voiced her concerns about shadowing on Portsmouth Square and other parks from the Transit Tower’s 1,000+ foot height.
